PM Mayiga Calls for Peace Ahead of January 2026 National Elections

“It is essential that all citizens, including supporters of political parties, remain safe and able to participate in the elections on voting day,” Mayiga said.

The Prime Minister of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has urged the government to ensure a peaceful conduct of the upcoming national elections scheduled for January 2026.

Mayiga made the call on Monday, December 15th, 2025, at Mengo Bulange while receiving a delegation from the National Unity Platform (NUP), led by party President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine.

The delegation had visited Mengo to seek blessings ahead of the elections.

During the meeting, Mayiga emphasized the importance of maintaining law and order during the remaining campaigning period.

He advised the NUP leadership to ensure that their supporters behave responsibly and refrain from confrontations with security forces.

“It is essential that all citizens, including supporters of political parties, remain safe and able to participate in the elections on voting day,” Mayiga said.

He further stressed that peaceful campaigns and cooperation with law enforcement would allow voters to exercise their rights without fear and contribute to a credible electoral process.

The Prime Minister’s remarks come amid heightened political activity in the country as parties intensify preparations for the January 2026 elections.
