PLU Mobilizers Seek Support and Recognition from Party Leadership Amid Post-Election Grievances

“Forgiveness, respect, and unity must guide us if we are to achieve credible leadership for all Ugandans. PLU’s dedication to this goal will be remembered, and members must put aside differences to work together in fulfilling the league’s objectives,”  Toyota emphasized.

Michael Nuwagira Toyota, the PLU National Vice Chairperson, addressing the press and party members today, 5th March 2026, at the PLU headquarters in Naguru.

Mobilizers of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) have called on the league’s top leadership to recognize and reward their efforts during the recently concluded presidential elections, in which their endorsed candidate, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, secured a commanding 71 percent victory.

The call was made at the PLU headquarters in Naguru today, 5th March 2026 amid tensions within the league, as some members expressed frustration over perceived neglect and lack of support from the leadership during the campaign period.

Joan Kemigisa, a PLU member, expressed disappointment at receiving no support while contesting under the league banner, losing both resources and personal assets.

“I contested on the PLU ticket expecting the league’s support, but was disappointed when a senior leader appeared backing another candidate. The campaigns cost me dearly; I even lost my car. The leadership should now consider lobbying deployments for some of us who made such sacrifices,” Kemigisa said.

Similarly, Isaac Nuwamanya, another member, criticized some members of the Central Executive Committee for making remarks that downplay the efforts and sacrifices of grassroots mobilizers who worked tirelessly to uphold the league’s objectives.

“Such leaders should face disciplinary action. PLU is not just a party it is an idea in the hearts of Ugandans. The upcoming MK fund must be transparent, inclusive, and properly represented at the league headquarters in Naguru,” Nuwamanya stated.

Responding to the concerns, Michael Nuwagira Toyota, the PLU National Vice Chairperson, explained that some members ran as independents, which made it impossible for the league to extend formal support.

He encouraged members who ran on the PLU ticket to continue pursuing their ambitions while learning from setbacks and preparing for future contests.

Toyota also assured mobilizers that deployments would follow after carder ship training in Kyankwanzi.

“We commend all mobilizers who supported President Museveni. Keep this spirit alive, not just through 2026, but up to 2031 and beyond,” he added.

The meeting, aimed at reconciliation, follows internal disputes over alleged discrimination and unequal distribution of resources.

The PLU National Vice Chairperson emphasized the importance of forgiveness, mutual respect, and unity among members to achieve the league’s overarching goal of providing credible leadership for Ugandans.

“Forgiveness, respect, and unity must guide us if we are to achieve credible leadership for all Ugandans. PLU’s dedication to this goal will be remembered, and members must put aside differences to work together in fulfilling the league’s objectives,”  Toyota emphasized.

The session highlighted PLU’s acknowledgment of grassroots mobilizers and reaffirmed its intention to ensure fair treatment, transparent funding, and structured support for all members moving forward as the league marches toward its future goals.
