The Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) has confirmed that the former Jinja East Constituency legislator MP Paul Mwiru did not inform them about his intentions to leave the party.
In a press statement released from ANT, the Acting National Coordinator Alice Alaso said that the party learnt of Mwiru’s joining National Unity Platform (NUP) party from the media.
“We learnt from the media that Hon. Mwiru Paul had changed his political home to the National Unity Platform,” Alaso said.
According to the statement, Mwiru has been in the top decision-making organ of ANT, where he has played a significant role in party growth and his input will definitely be missed.
Paul Mwiru joined the National Unity platform last week during the NUP leader Robert Kyagulanyi’s visit in Jinja City. Kyagulanyi arrived at Mwiru’s Busoga 1 FM station, before his supporters finally joined in to celebrate his arrival.
Additionally, Kyagulanyi welcomed Mwiru into the opposition party, announcing that the former legislator was not an opponent but an ally. Mwiru, who had been with the Forum for Democratic Change in the last parliament, lost his seat in the house after transferring to Alliance for National Transformation.
The 46 year old lawyer was a significant figure in the 10th Parliament during the amendment of the age limit bill, where he voted against its amendment.
