Major Bilal Katamba, the Public Information Officer of UPDF Mountain Division and Operation Shujaa, has revealed that two Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels have been killed while three children rescued in a joint operation by the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) and the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FADRC) in Mwalika Valley under the 15th Battalion.

In a statement released on August 9, 2023, Maj. Katamba said that in the same operation, some of the weapons were recovered.

“In an encounter with a group of ADF rebels, two rebels were put out of action and a Rocket Propelled Gun (RPG) launcher recovered from the terrorists by the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) and the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (AFDRC) in a joint operation at Mwalika Valley under the 15th battalion,” Katamba said.

According to Katamba, the rescued children were in terrible health conditions and needed medical attention, adding that, they are currently undergoing treatment and monitoring by the UPDF medical personnel.

Katamba assured the public that the joint forces will continue to comb the Valley of Mwalika to clear it of all terrorists and continue with their efforts of rescuing more children and women.

This follows the surrender of seven other rebels to the joint forces on August 6, 2023.
