Ndere Cultural Center is found in Ntinda, a Kampala suburb and is owned by Steven Rwangyezi.  While working as a teacher in 1984, the quest for acting took the better of Rwangyezi and with the ambition to mentor a new generation of cultural artists, he started Ndere Troupe with a group of students from Lubiri Secondary School.

The word endere means flute. The Ndere Troupe therefore means Flute Troupe. The flute was chosen as a symbol of beauty because it produces beautiful music which can be manipulated to express a range of emotions, from sorrow to joy and from love to loneliness.

Today, Ndere Troupe has become one of the influential cultural groups in the world, and apart from performing world over, they usually have the sherehe show every Wednesday, Ndere Friday and the Katika Sundays at Ndere cultural center.

The Ndere cultural troupe dances are exclusive African. They use local dancing instruments like drums, and cultural wears, among others. Away from promoting cultural heritage, Ndere Troupe also uses its art to sensitise and educate the masses on the issues affecting Uganda.

Ndere cultural center performs one of the best shows in Africa and the entire cultural experience is meticulously designed to provide a sense of daily living in ancient Ugandan culture.

You will be amused and fully immersed in the experience, from the famous mwanga imbalu initiation dance from Bagisu, the Amagunjju Buganda royal dance, the Ekitaguriro dance from Ankole, Larakaraka Acholi courtship dance, Orunyege dance, Tamena dance and many others.

The Ndere cultural center is known for its extraordinary cultural performances like dance and drama, all to promote Uganda’s diverse cultures.  It has become a training ground for young people who hope to start dance troupes in the country and the dance moves they perform are from Uganda’s fifty six ethnic tribes.

The center also organizes different functions and weddings, and the setting is different and the ambiance blissful for any event organized at the home of culture.
