Multi-vehicle Collision Kills Five People, Injures Many on Nakuru-Eldoret Highway

Accident on Mlango Tatu area on the Nakuru-Eldoret highway that claimed lives of 5 people

An accident involving multiple vehicles has claimed the lives of five and injured others in the Mlango Tatu area on the Nakuru-Eldoret highway in Kenya.

This incident occurred in the wee hours of January 4, 2024, when a Mitsubishi bus collided with three other vehicles, including a Toyota Probox, in the Mlango Tatu area.

According to the press release from Kenya’s National Police Service, preliminary investigations show that three people died immediately at the scene of the accident.

“Several passengers were rushed to Eldama Ravine Sub-county Hospital for urgent medical treatment, but two more unknown passengers died while undergoing treatment due to the injuries they had sustained, bringing the total of deaths to five,” the National Police Service reported.

The bodies of the deceased have been preserved at the Eldama Ravine Sub-County Hospital Mortuary, awaiting autopsy procedures.

Authorities said that during the 2023 holiday season, ten accidents were reported, resulting in multiple fatalities and serious injuries for others who were hospitalized in various states.

The Inspector General of the National Police Service, Japhet Koome, instructed all officers on leave to resume work immediately owing to increased traffic and road accidents on the roads.

According to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) in Kenya, 3,609 people lost their lives in road accidents between January and October 2023.
