Police in Mpigi are investigating circumstances under which a 30-year-old man attacked and brutally burned his wife to death using petrol.
This incident happened on September 16, 2024, in Ndoddo, Kammengo sub-county in Mpigi district. The suspect has been identified as Richard Nsubuga, while the deceased was identified as Aisha Kigongo, aged around 30-35 years.
According to preliminary reports, Kigongo was attacked by Nsubuga and burned to death using petrol due to suspicions of infidelity with her first husband.
One of the children of the locals (name withheld) revealed that Nsubuga gave him money to buy petrol and a matchstick, which he brought, and he left in a hurry.
In an interview with journalists on September 17, 2024, the deceased’s brother, Abbas Kakumba, said that the locals did their best to put out the fire, but it was too much, and by the time it was put out, Kigongo was already burned beyond recognition.
Kakumba added that Nsubuga might have first strangled Kigongo, then afterwards set her ablaze so that he could kill evidence pointing at him.
’’Nsubuga has been accusing my sister Kigongo of cheating on him with her first husband, yet these were all lies, so I believe this is what prompted him to kill my sister in such an inhumane way,’’ Kakumba stated.
Kakumba added that Nsubuga found Kigongo with two children from her previous marriage; however, she and her ex-husband kept in touch, which Nsubuga did not like.
He further revealed that it will be hard to get Nsubuga because he changes his name according to the religion of the person he is dating.
“When he was dating Kigongo, he changed his name to Umaru so that her parents would allow them to live together since she was a Muslim,” Kakumba said.
The Katonga regional police spokesperson, SP Karim Majid, confirmed this incident and revealed that a manhunt for the culprit has started.

SP Majid added that the two might have had an argument before the victim was burned to death; however, investigations are underway and a report will be released soon.
’’The body of the deceased was taken to Mpigi hospital for postmortem examinations while a manhunt for the suspect and investigations have started,’’ he said.
Majid further called upon anyone with a clue on Nsubuga’s whereabouts to inform police as soon as possible.
