Ministry of Finance Launches National Budget Month, Calls for Full Citizen Participation

Government urges Ugandans to actively participate in budget process as FY2026/27 implementation begins

The Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development has officially launched the National Budget Month for the Financial Year 2026/27, urging citizens across Uganda to actively participate in the national budgeting process as government pushes for greater transparency and accountability in public finance management.

Speaking at the launch held today at the Ministry headquarters in Kampala, Permanent Secretary and Secretary to the Treasury Ramathan Ggoobi emphasized that citizen engagement remains central to effective budget implementation.

“The National Budget Month provides an important platform for Government to account to citizens on achievements registered during the current financial year, communicate opportunities in the new budget, and obtain feedback that informs future planning and policy decisions,” Ggoobi said.

He noted that the FY2026/27 budget was developed through wide consultations involving government ministries, Parliament, local governments, civil society, development partners, private sector actors, and citizens from across the country.

The budget, passed by Parliament on April 24, 2026, is anchored on the theme of “Full Monetization of Uganda’s Economy through Commercial Agriculture, Industrialization, Expanding Services, Digital Transformation and Market Access.”

Ggoobi stressed that successful implementation depends on active oversight and participation from all stakeholders.
