The Office of the President has suspended Paul Waiswa Bweni Bwamwiko, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner (DRDC), with immediate effect over the alleged physical assault on Abdullah Kisige, a resident of Luuka district in the Busoga region in the eastern part of Uganda.
According to Yunus Kakande, the secretary in the Office of the President, Waiswa’s assault on Kisige is a criminal matter that should be handled by the police; however, it brings the public into disrepute, which is against Section (F-R) and paragraph 5(b) of the Uganda Standing Orders (2021).
“I hereby suspend you from duty as Deputy Resident District Commissioner Luuka with immediate effect,” Kakande said.
Clearly stupilated by Section (F-d) of the Uganda Public Service Standing Orders, Waiswa should hand over the office, the government vehicle, or any other government property in his possession and accept the employment identity card.
Waiswa is also expected to submit a written defence explaining the crime he is accused of and submit it to the office of the secretary in less than fourteen days.
“You should also prepare a written defence in regard to the allegations, as contained in Kisige’s written complaint to you. You should also therefore show cause why your case should not be forwarded to the rewards and sanctions committee of the office of the President for further disciplinary action against you,” Kakande said.
Waiswa’s suspension stems from a video clip making the rounds on different social media platforms, where Waiswa and Kisige are seen exchanging words on a yet-to-be-identified issue.
