The announcement was made by the Minister of State for Sports, Peter Ogwang, through his official X account.

“Our Kyambogo training pitch is now complete and ready for CHAN and AFCON games,” Ogwang posted.

The project cost Shs14.3 billion and was completed in two phases first as a training facility for CHAN 2024 and later to support AFCON 2027.

Other approved sites include the Namboole Stadium training pitch, Muteesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku, Kampala International School of Uganda (KISU), and Kadiba Stadium.

On May 22, 2024, top officials including Kyambogo University Vice Chancellor Prof. Eli Katunguka, Council Chairperson Mary Goretti Nakabugo, and Commander of the UPDF Engineering Brigade Godfrey Tukamwakira signed an agreement to support the development of the pitch.

Minister Ogwang, National Council of Sports chairperson Ambrose Tashobya, and general secretary Bernard Patrick Ogwel were also present.
