The National Unity Platform (NUP) president, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, has pledged to fight corruption as one of his top priorities if elected President of Uganda.
Addressing supporters at Kalaki Primary School in Pallisa District on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, Kyagulanyi said a new government under his leadership would deal firmly with corruption so that public funds can be used to improve service delivery.
He said Uganda loses about 10 trillion shillings every year due to corruption, adding that this amounts to about 50 trillion shillings over five years. Kyagulanyi argued that the country is rich, but Ugandans remain poor because public resources are misused.
Kyagulanyi said that while wealthy leaders seek treatment abroad in places such as Aga Khan Hospital and India, many ordinary Ugandans die in poorly equipped public hospitals. He said this situation can be changed by voting for new leadership and ending what he described as a corrupt system.
While campaigning in Kumi District, Kyagulanyi also promised the people of the Teso sub-region that his government would compensate war victims and residents who lost their cattle during past conflicts.
He assured war victims that once his government takes office, compensation will be a priority.
Kyagulanyi has so far campaigned in more than 138 designated venues and has 28 areas left to cover. This week, he is campaigning in the Teso sub-region, with planned stops in Kapelebyong, Amuria, Katakwi, Serere, Soroti City, Kalaki, Kaberamaido, Ngora, and Bukedea Districts.
