KABALE: Six Top Officials, Contractor Arrested Over Stolen Public Funds

According to Nsungwa, the suspects have been transferred to Kampala where they are expected to appear before the Anti-Corruption Court to face charges of alleged misappropriation of public resources.

The Inspectorate of Government (IGG) has arrested six senior officials from Kabale District Local Government, along with a private contractor, over the alleged misappropriation of UGX 107,688,900 shillings in public funds.

The arrested individuals include Benon Kahangi (District Production Officer), Stephen Buregyeya (Senior Treasurer), Sixtus Ahabwe (Assistant Veterinary Officer), Owen Atuhaire (Assistant Inventory Management Officer), Pamela Musimenta (Assistant Agriculture Officer), Kwizera Wilson (Assistant Agriculture Officer), and Nicholas Karuhanga, Director of Hummer Consults Co. Ltd.

This was confirmed on Monday, March 2nd, 2026, by Noeline Nsungwa, the IGG of the Kabale regional office.

According to Nsungwa, the suspects have been transferred to Kampala where they are expected to appear before the Anti-Corruption Court to face charges of alleged misappropriation of public resources.

By press time, the details of the case were not disclosed however, this will be revealed during the day of the court hearing.

This is not the first time Anti-corruption is taking action in Kabale, in 2022, six top officials of Kabale district were arrested last week for allegedly misappropriating Shs289m meant for the implementation of Parish Development Model.

However, they were released on a police bond after paying shs120m.
