Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has officially submitted the required supporter signatures endorsing Hon. Akena James Michael Jimmy as the party’s Presidential Flag Bearer for the 2026 general elections. The submission, completed on 08 September 2025, marks a significant step in the party’s preparations for the upcoming elections.
This development was confirmed by the party spokesperson, Sharon Arach Oyat, during the weekly press conference held at the party’s head quarters Uganda House on Wednesday, 10 September 2025.
Arach thanked the party leadership and members at all levels for their dedicated efforts in collecting signatures on time, highlighting their crucial role in readying the party for the elections.
“We thank Party leadership at all levels and membership of the Party who got involved in the process of signature collections on time and for doing a very tremendous job for the Party in readiness for the forthcoming general elections,” Arach said.
She further congratulated the party flag bearers who have already been nominated for various local government positions and encouraged those with pending nominations to prepare thoroughly.
She called upon aspirants for Members of Parliament to ensure all nomination requirements are met promptly, including securing party endorsements to avoid last-minute challenges.
The party extended gratitude to the Independent Electoral Commission for facilitating the nomination process and now awaits the official nomination of their presidential candidate, continuing with nationwide mobilization efforts ahead of the elections.
