Government agencies have assured Ugandans that essential public services will continue uninterrupted before, during, and after the general elections scheduled for Thursday, 15th January, 2026.
The assurance was issued on Monday, 12th January, during a pre – election media briefing held at the State House Investors Protection Unit (SHIPU) offices in Kampala.
The briefing brought together heads of key government institutions to address public concerns surrounding service delivery during the election period.
Speaking at the briefing, Col. Edith Nakalema, the Head of SHIPU, emphasized that government operations will not be suspended during the elections, dismissing claims that offices would close or services halted.
“Government operations will continue as normal during and after the elections. Offices will remain open to ensure uninterrupted service delivery and maintain public confidence,” Col. Nakalema said.
Col. Nakalema also called on the media to play a responsible role by countering misinformation that suggests elections disrupt government operations, noting that balanced and accurate reporting is vital to keeping citizens properly informed.
Additionally, Dr. Barirega Akankwasah, the Dean of Heads of Government Agencies and Executive Director of the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), voiced similar sentiments, saying elections should not interfere with public service provision.
“Elections are a vital pillar of democracy, but service delivery does not stop during elections. We shall remain fully operational and committed to serving Ugandans,” Dr. Akankwasah said.
The health sector also reaffirmed its preparedness.
Dr. Rosemary Byanyima, the Executive Director of Mulago National Referral Hospital, confirmed that the hospital will continue operating normally throughout the election period.
“We are ready to handle emergencies, referrals, and specialized treatment during the election period,” Dr. Byanyima emphasized.
Similarly, Alex Anganya, the Deputy Registrar General of the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB), assured the public of uninterrupted access to registration and related services.
“We shall ensure effective service delivery across all our platforms during and after the elections,” Anganya noted.
The briefing comes as Uganda prepares for nationwide polls, with government leaders urging citizens to remain calm, participate peacefully in the electoral process, and remain confident that essential public services will remain available throughout the election period.
