The Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) has introduced the FUFA Big League Trophy, a symbol of strength, unity, and Ugandan heritage.
In an announcement on their X handle (@fufatv1) on Monday, June 16, 2025, Ahmed Hussein, the FUFA Communications Director, the trophy’s design draws inspiration from the buffalo, a wild creature known for its tenacity and collective strength.
According to Hussein, the new design embodies the true spirit of competition and perseverance in the FUFA Big League, depicting the strength of each team and the famous wild creature, the buffalo.
“The trophy’s outline is composed of three main sections, with the top bulb gently curving upward and the middle trunk connecting the top and base through a sleek multi-level design,” he said.
He stated that the base is constructed with four tiers that curve slightly, forming a solid foundation and serving as a metaphor for the league’s contribution to the development of football in Uganda.
“The trophy’s handles are attached between the top bulb and the offset trunk tier, reinforcing the buffalo horn imagery while blending seamlessly with the body,” he added.
The design features handles shaped like buffalo horns, representing defence, power, and unity. The four-tier base takes cues from the buffalo’s body parts, the mouth and nostrils, while the trunk and upper layers resemble the forehead and nose bridge.
The new FUFA Big League Trophy stands at 455mm tall and is composed of silver. Silver was chosen for the trophy not only for its beauty but also for what it represents: prestige and purity. It is a fitting tribute to the dedication, discipline, and fair play demanded of every team that dares to compete for this coveted prize.
