More than thirty former Resident District Commissioners (RDCs) have appealed to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni about their reshuffle. The former RDCs, represented by Eric Sakwa, requested that the President give them a “resettlement package,” claiming that they face significant financial hardships in addition to not fitting in their communities.

While speaking on national television on March 12, 2024, Eric Sakwa, the former Jinja RDC, said that they need compensation because they have not worked for three years.

“I haven’t worked for three years, and I need compensation. The court found I was being falsely accused by the land grabbers. The land grabbers got what they wanted. I lost my job, and I was taken to jail,” Sakwa said.

Sakwa also claimed that he was accused falsely because he was against corruption and land grabbers.

“When you are against land grabbers, they look for a way of getting you out since you are not cooperating,” Sakwa added.

On Wednesday, March 23, 2022, the President of Uganda conducted a reshuffle that affected over 100 RDCs with a number of them being dropped.
