The opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party’s top leadership has asked former supporters who had defected and joined other political affiliations to come back ahead of the 2026 elections.
This was announced on Wednesday, on January 15th, 2025, by FDC party President Patrick Amuriat while addressing the press at the party headquarters, Najjanankumbi, in Kampala.
Amuriat said the call is in accordance with article 12 of the FDC Constitution, which outlines the process for members to rejoin the party.
“We have been approached by a number of our former members expressing a desire to return to the party and actively participate in the party activities, including mobilization towards the forthcoming elections,”Amuriat said.
He said to streamline the process, the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the FDC plans to establish reception desks in every district across the country.
“I wish to inform the public that the party has attained stability, thanks to the commitment of the leadership and members. Any previous challenges that we faced have been decisively sorted,” he added.
The upcoming exercise of party structure formation and refilling of vacant leadership positions is highlighted as a golden opportunity for new entrants, according to Amuriat.
He adds that FDC has embarked on an aggressive campaign to encourage young people of our country to join the party and to seek leadership positions by participating in the forthcoming exercise of party structure formation and refilling of vacant leadership positions.
This proactive approach signifies a renewed commitment to fostering unity and expanding participation within the party, setting the stage for a robust electoral campaign ahead.
