The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) President, who doubles as Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, has pledged full support and cooperation with the National Unity Platform (NUP) party, as the two forces look forward to working together to push for regime change.

Lukwago made this pledge at the National Special Prayers organized by NUP on December 21, 2023, at their new offices in Makerere Kavule.

“We should start January with zeal, go on the grounds, and be united not only on camera. Let’s make a chain and work hand in hand as leaders and push for change,” Lukwago said.

“We have our differences in politics, but this is not the time for competition about party colors. On behalf of the progressive forces in the FDC, I hereby commit that all those who are here and those who are not here are going to rally in a single file with the NUP, ANT, and UPC until the dictator is away,” Lukwago added.

Lukwago was flanked by his deputy mayor, Nyanjura Doreen, who was also the master of ceremonies, and NUP’s party spokesperson, Joel Ssenyonyi.

The prayers, which were organized by the NUP, were attended by key figures from the FDC, including former party President Kiiza Besigye, members of the Alliance for National Transformation led by General Mugisha Muntu, and former Leader of Opposition Winnie Kiiza among others.

Lukwago’s remarks come at a time when the Forum for Democratic Change is split between two factions, with Lukwago, Besigye, Ssemuju, Wasswa Birigwa, and other top leaders still loyal to the Katonga faction and Nandala Mafabi and Engineer Patrick Amuriat Oboi heading another faction at Najjanankumbi.
