The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has slammed the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party for fronting Dr. Rosemary Alwoc, the daughter of the late Dokolo Woman Member of Parliament (MP), Cecilia Atim Ogwal, to replace her mother in Parliament.

Early this week, FDC’s top leaders, led by Party President Eng. Patrick Oboi Amuriat, unveiled Dr. Alwoc as the official flag bearer in the Dokolo by-election.

Emmanuel Dombo, the Director of Information Publicity and Spokesperson of the NRM party, described this as hypocritical.

“They have all learned and mastered one thing: to accuse the NRM party and President Museveni of the same failures and inadequacies that they manifest!” Dombo said.

The NRM secretariat recently declared Janet Elau Adong as the party’s official flag bearer for the by-election.

According to Dombo, Adong was the official candidate during the 2021 general election, in which she emerged 2nd after the late Ogwal with over 16,000 votes.

A source in Dokolo revealed that Dr. Alwoc will have to face an uphill task from both NRM’s Adong and Sarah Nyankori Aguti of the UPC party, who also emerged in third place in the last election.

MP Jimmy Akena Obote, the UPC party President, revealed on Thursday that they will soon storm Dokolo to kick-start electoral mobilisations and consultation for their flag bearer. Akena is optimistic that the UPC candidate will win the forthcoming by-election.

On February 12, 2024, the Electoral Commission unveiled the road map for the Dokolo by-election to replace fallen MP Ogwal.
