The Democratic Party (DP) has encouraged all citizens to actively participate in the national census process, starting from May 10–19, 2024.
The statement was made during the party’s weekly press release, which took place on May 7, 2024, at the party headquarters at City House, Kampala.
The party spokesperson, Ismail Kirya, noted that as DP, they encourage all Ugandans to freely participate in the national census process, stating that the statistics from the census are what the government will use to plan for its citizens and the country.
“No matter what’s happening in the country, do not boycott the National Census because those numbers will help the government see that more schools, hospitals, and medicine are needed in the country,” he said.
Kirya urged the enumerators and other census officials to act professionally and have some humor, noting that some people will have a bad attitude towards them while others will be welcoming.
“A lot is going on in the country, from bad governance to a terrible economy, so you, the enumerators, will get people in different moods. You should act professionally and patiently while carrying out the census process,” he added.
Uganda is set to conduct its National Population and Housing Census 2024 under the theme “It matters to be counted,” slated to run from May 10–19, 2024. The process will be carried out digitally for the first time by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS).
