Coach Paul Put Names 28-Man Squad Ahead of 2025 AFCON Qualifiers

Uganda Cranes are in Group K of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers, alongside South Africa, Congo Brazzaville and South Sudan. The Cranes will target a top-two finish in the group to qualify for the final tournament in Morocco.

The Uganda Cranes coach, Paul Put, has named a 28-man squad ahead of the 2025 AFCON Qualifiers. The squad was announced on August 27, 2024, at the FUFA headquarters in Mengo, Kampala.

The squad named goalkeepers as Isima Watenga, Nafian Alionza, and Charles Lwanga. The defenders are Elvis Bwomono, James Begisa, Isaac Mulema, Joseph Ochaya, Abdu Aziizi Kayondo, Bevis Mugabi, Elio Capradossi, Halidi Lwaliwa, Arnold Odongo, and Timothy Awany. The midfielders are Khalid Aucho, Bobosi Byaruhanga, Joel Sserunjogi, Kenneth Semakula, Ronald Ssekiganda, Travis Mutyaba, and Saidi Mayanja, and the forwards are Denis Omedi, Jude Sseugabi, Joachim Ojera, Rogers Mato, Muhammad Shaban, Steven Mukwala, Calvin Kabuye, and Allan Okello.

Coach Put stated that some players called up will not be able to make it for the qualifiers because of different reasons, like travel document issues and some are injured, including Allan Kyambadde, Herbert Bokone, Mubiru Uche, Moses Opondo, and Herbert Ssewankambo, stating that however, the available players will be able to future to the matches.

“We will travel to South Africa on August 31, 2024, and play our first match on September 6, 2024. We will return to Uganda on September 7, 2024, and host Congo Brazzaville on September 9, 2024. Some players will travel directly to South Africa from wherever they are coming from while those in Uganda will get them there,” Coach Put revealed.

Hussein Ahmed, the Communication Director of FUFA, added that tickets for all three matches will be ready and available on August 28, 2024, and assured the public about the availability of Namboole National Stadium.

“Tickets will be available tomorrow and the prices of the tickets for all three matches will be the same such that, if one misses the first match, they can be able to attend the next match. We have also been assured that Namboole National Stadium will be ready for use for all the home matches,” he added.
