Chaapa Super League Continues to Display First-rate Talent for Fitness, Social Capital

The Mbarara high school old boys league also known as Chaapa Super League continues to display their super talent as the old boys meet twice a month to not only play for fun but also remain fit, network and keep in touch. On Sunday, July 16, 2023, the teams met and have played from Makerere University Business School.

According to the President of Chaapa Super League Timon Ainebyoona, the league was created to keep old boys fit and healthy, on top of networking and keeping in touch with their old school.

“This league is not just for fun and networking but also to keep most of us fit and healthy, I therefore, call upon all old boys out there to come and form teams and be part of the Chaapa super league as we continue to raise the flag of Mbarara High school high for it has made us who we are today,” Ainebyoona said.

On gender inclusion, Ainebyoona confirmed that the Chaapa super league will have at least a lady on each team starting next season even when Mbarara high school is strictly a male sex school.

The second season of the Chaapa super league started in March and ends in September 2023. It consists of 12 teams which play twice a month with home games at Cleverland Primary School in Kyebando and also plays at Makerere University Business School Nakawa (MUBS) for the other games.

The league continues next weekend for match day 11 at MUBS sports ground and is sponsored by old boys who pay a subscription fee that caters for logistics of the matches.

“During matches, the Red Cross team is always available to give players first aid and other medical services as need arises. Other sponsors include Coca-Cola that provides players with beverages, Fine Print company that sponsors a few teams, and Carols’ Juice, among others are still coming on board soon,” Ainebyoona added.

By Match nine, Karasonde team of class 2010-2015 was topping the league table as Akajju of class 2014-2018 was leading from the bottom.

Mbarara high school (Chaapa) is located in Mbarara and was started as a primary school by the Church Missionary Society in February 1911 at the then Kings palace.
