Busoga Leaders Want Museveni to Intervene in GROW Project’s Alleged Mismanagement

The leaders of the Busoga sub region have asked President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to immediately intervene and streamline the implementation of the Generating Growth Opportunities and Productivity for Women Enterprises (GROW), managed by the Ministry of Gender, Labor, and Social Development.

In a brief petition presented to President Museveni by the 1st Deputy Prime Minister Rebecca Kadaga on Friday, January 24th, 2025, at the Kamuli Youth Center grounds during the PDM and wealth creation rally, the leaders claimed the GROW project is extremely being mismanaged by the Gender ministry headed by Minister Betty Amongi Akena.

A section of other leaders and residents believe that the project is not being implemented as the original objectives therefore the President should intervene and restore sanity before it is late.

In his response, President Museveni pledged to intervene and ensure the project is managed well to benefit women.

“Regarding the women money GRO, we are going to handle it. This is money from some foreign sources, but I was concentrating on our own money, EMYOOGA; I am going to take an interest in,” Museveni said.

The Generating Growth Opportunities and Productivity for Women Enterprises (GROW) Project is a Government of Uganda project, funded by the World Bank, implemented by the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development and the Private Sector Foundation Uganda in all districts, municipalities, and cities.

It aims at increasing access to entrepreneurial services that enable female entrepreneurs to grow their enterprises from micro to small and small to medium in targeted locations, including the refugee host districts.
