14 Contestants Compete for Miss, Mr. Tourism Kigezi Finals 2023

Fourteen participants are currently in the boot camp at Resort Hotel in Kanungu, tussling out for the title of Miss Tourism Kigezi 2023 scheduled for Saturday, July 1, 2023 at Rovins World Gardens in Kihihi, Kanungu district.

According to the founder and Director of Miss Tourism Kigezi, Clare Emily Atwongyeire, nine girls are contesting for Miss Tourism, while five boys contesting for Mr. Tourism.

Atwongyeire identified the girl contestants as Marina Ampurire, a 20-year-old resident of Rukiga and student of BA Procurement and Logistics at Makerere University; Pauline Ampaire, a 20-year-old resident of Kabale and holder of a Diploma in Airline Cabin Crew; Precious Kengoro, a 23-year-old from Kabale and a student of BA Tourism at Kampala International University, among others.

She identified boy contestants as Collins Muhwezi, a 25-year-old from Kabale and an Architectural Engineer; Henrick Twesigye, a 23-year-old from Kabale and a senior six leaver, among others.

Atwongyeire revealed that the girls are holding the 9th edition while it is the 2nd edition for the boys.

“Nine girls are contesting for Miss Tourism Kigezi and five boys contesting for Mr. Tourism. For girls, it’s the 9th edition while for boys, it’s the 2nd edition,” she noted.

The Director noted that, the main objective of Miss Tourism Kigezi is to promote tourism in Kigezi.

She said that Kigezi is a region formed of six districts, adding that the event is done on a rotational basis with most of the editions having been done in Kabale, in order to build a brand and be used as a training ground to strengthen the program. However, Kigezi has also held some editions.

This year’s Miss Tourism Kigezi event is focused on the observance of Wildlife and Environment Conservation Day 2023 which is held under the theme ”Partnerships for Wildlife Conservation” to celebrate all conservation efforts from wildlife school clubs to the local scale.

The initiative of Miss Tourism Kigezi was founded in 2014 under the vision of promoting, empowering and celebrating the role of young men and women in promoting Tourism industry, culture, conserve wildlife and environment through pageantry.
