President Museveni Assents to Six Bills, Rejects Income Tax Bill 2023

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has signed six Bills into law and rejected the income tax bill for 2023.

This was announced on Thursday, June 29th, 2023, by the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among.

The bills to which the President assented include the Lotteries and Gaming (Amendment) Bill 2023, the Traffic and Road Safety Act, 1998 (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill 2023, and the Value Added Tax (Amendment) Bill 2023.

Others are the Convention on Mutual Administrative Assistance in Tax Matters Bill, 2023, the Supplementary Appropriation Bill, 2023, and the Appropriation Bill, 2023.

“I thank H.E. Kaguta Museveni for fulfilling his constitutional obligation and all honourable Members of the House for their input and Commitment to serving the Country,” Speaker Among said.

Earlier on, the Speaker announced that President Museveni had returned to Parliament the Income Tax (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill, 2023.

Parliament later passed the Bill after it was read for the third time.

The Bill seeks to provide for equivalent tax treatment of Islamic financial businesses and takaful businesses to conventional financial services or insurance businesses.
