Thirteen girls have come out to compete for the Miss Tourism Teso 2024 crown, whose grand finale is set for August 3, 2024, at Cloud 9 Arena in Soroti City.
The contest under the theme of Tourism and Peace has three girls from Soroti district, including Mildred Aliba, 21, a student of a Bachelor’s degree in Development Studies; Trishila Flinny Omoding, 19, a Pharmacy student; and Doreen Elora, 25, a graduate of a Bachelor’s degree in industrial art and design, competing.
Others are Sarah Amongin, 22, a student of Environmental Management; and Lisa Tino Alina, 23, studying Adult and Community Education-all from Katakwi district; Antalia Amwano, 22, from Amuria district, holding a certificate in General Nursing; and Brenda Rita Akello, 22, a student of Leisure, Tourism and Hotel Management.
From Ngora are Goergina Tirzah Amuge, 20, an ‘A’ level vacist, and Betty Acam Okello, 20, a student of Public Administration and Community Development. Others include Brenda Patricia Asio, 26, from Serere district, who possesses a certificate in Tourism Operations; Patricia Amutos, 25, from Kumi district, who has a certificate in Records and Information Management; Mercy Akiteng, a 23-year-old graduate of a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Bukedea district and a born of Tororo district; and Agnes Akello, 18, who is pursuing science in Tourism and Hospitality Management.
Enid Mercy Amoding, the media coordinator for Miss Tourism Teso, said that the contestants must be Ugandan born of Teso or Kumam parents, between 18 and 28 years old, not married or have any children, have completed A’ level of education or its equivalent, be able to express themselves in English plus their mother tongue, not presently holding a title winner, 1st and 2nd runner up from other contests, and be 5 feet 6 inches tall, among others.
She noted that the final selection will be done through the collective challenges, beginning with online sessions coupled with video challenges ranging from cooking to dancing.
“This year, they did four videos. Each contestant was given a traditional dance to perform and talk about, prepared traditional food, and took the audience through the same process for a month of the year. They were also asked to educate the community, and they were also assigned to talk about naming rights in Teso and how conflict resolution is handled in Teso.
This year’s talent night is scheduled for July 27, 2024.
