Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has expressed concerns over the delays by the Electoral Commission (EC) in display registers for special interest groups throughout the country.
Arach Oyat Sharon, the party spokesperson argued that there are great concerns and reports from members that the Register for the Special Interest Groups was inaccessible in most of the villages across the country
According to her, this is causing despair, already affecting and complicating internal political Party arrangements of identifying potential qualified flag bearers and being a registered voter is one of them.
“UPC urges the IEC to address this issue as soon as possible while considering the time factor,” Oyat said.
She made these statements during the party’s weekly briefing held at Uganda House on May 7, 2025.
She reminded all party members who fall under the category of the Special Interest Groups (SIGs) that include the youths, persons with disabilities, older persons and those intend to carry the party’s flag that the scheduled period for picking and returning of the application of interest form began on 5th May and ends on 10th May 2025.
“This is to emphasise that this Form can be picked from the Party District Chairpersons and the Regional Vice Chairpersons across the country,” she added.
Oyat explained that where there is more than one aspiring candidate for the forthcoming elections of SIGs, the Party will organize primaries from 15th – 17th May 2025.
According to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), the nomination of Village SIGs Committees Candidates is from 2nd – 10th June 2025, while the polling for Village SIGs Committees is from 16th – 19th June 2025.
The party calls upon leaders and members at all levels countrywide to massively mobilise and prepare for the next stages of the IEC roadmap.
