Eighteen-year-old Cherop Charity produced one of the day’s headline moments, clinching silver in the women’s 5000 meters with an impressive time of 15:47.01.
Her strong finish against a highly competitive field signaled the arrival of a promising young star in long-distance athletics.
In the same spirit of excellence, middle-distance veteran Halima Nakaayi reaffirmed her global class by securing silver in the 800 meters, clocking 2:03.14 in a tactical race that kept spectators on edge.
Uganda’s medal haul continued to grow as Shida Leni powered through the women’s 400 meters to capture bronze, recording a time of 52.72 seconds. Leni’s performance demonstrated remarkable resilience and consistency, reinforcing her status among Africa’s elite sprinters. Her medal added depth to Uganda’s success across multiple track events.
With these three medals, Uganda’s overall tally at the Games has risen to 12 medals, a commendable achievement as the team competes across seven disciplines swimming, wrestling, para-power lifting, boxing, table tennis, weightlifting, and athletics.
