PFF Boycotts Presidential Inauguration Ceremony

“As PPF, we are concerned with Museveni’s forthcoming swearing-in ceremony, which has caused roadblocks on Kampala roads after what he called an overwhelming victory in the recent elections. This is the time for the country to rise because his 5th term in power is going to be the worst for Ugandans,” Ssemuju said.

The leadership of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) party has vowed not to attend the forthcoming presidential inauguration, citing the incumbent president’s illegitimacy due to the alleged chaotic elections in which Museveni emerged as the winner.

According to Ibrahim Ssemuju Nganda, the Party spokesperson, President Museveni would not make heavy security deployments around Kampala if he believed that he genuinely won the recent elections.

While speaking to journalists on Monday, May 11th, 2026, at the party headquarters on Katonga Road in Kampala, Semujju noted that they will soon reach out to people to find a collective solution, stating that Ugandans should not bother with Museveni’s inauguration but with what is most likely to come when he takes over power for the fifth term.

According to Ingrid Turinawe, the party mobilizer, they are not surprised to see the security deployments in Kampala because the population is not in his favor, alleging that Museveni did not win the elections.

“We are saying no congratulations to the person who rigged elections and who has misgoverned us, and we shall not attend the ceremony,” she said.

She added that her party will not give up on reclaiming its country, adding that Ugandans should not lose hope even after Museveni’s swearing-in because several opposition political parties have filed petitions to challenge his victory and the members of parliament who rigged the elections.

Museveni’s inauguration ceremony has since caused panic in the opposition camps, where some opposition political parties have responded by boycotting the event on grounds of allegations of vote rigging by the incumbent in the recent elections.

PFF’s boycott has followed the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), which on Sunday, May 10th, 2026, communicated the boycott of the presidential inauguration.

However, the Secretariat of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) has since encouraged anyone who disagrees with Museveni’s victory to use legal means to solve the puzzle.

Meanwhile, the presidential swearing-in ceremony for President-elect Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is scheduled for Tuesday, May 12th, 2026. The ceremony will take place at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in Kampala, and the day has been declared a public holiday in Uganda.
