The enforcement was carried out during the weekend under the National Environment (Noise Standards and Control) Regulations, 2003, which sets permissible noise levels and outlines penalties for offenders.

The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), through its Enforcement and Field Operations Department impounded noisy-generation equipment from several non-compliant premises violating noise regulations across Kampala Metropolitan areas.

The areas included Mukono, Seeta, Bweyerere, Kireka, Namugongo, Jjanda, Kulambiro, Bukoto, Katwe, Buloba, Makindye, Mengo, and Kampala City.

The enforcement was carried out during the weekend under the National Environment (Noise Standards and Control) Regulations, 2003, which sets permissible noise levels and outlines penalties for offenders.

According to the statement, the crackdown responds to rising public complaints about excessive noise pollution and perceived lax enforcement by authorities.

NEMA reiterated its commitment to upholding every Ugandan’s constitutional right to a clean and healthy environment as guaranteed under Article 39 of the Constitution.

“Noise pollution has been linked to various health problems including stress, hearing loss, and lowered productivity. It also disrupts community well-being, negatively impacting schools, hospitals, places of worship, and households,” reads part of the statement.

NEMA has called upon owners of bars, entertainment venues, places of worship, and other facilities using amplified sound to strictly adhere to the noise standards.

NEMA continues to work with partners and the public to ensure that noise pollution is controlled as part of broader environmental conservation and public health efforts in Uganda.
