While joining the rest of the country to celebrate Kabaka Ronald Mutebi’s 30th Coronation Anniversary, on Monday, July 31, 2023, at Mengo Palace, the Opposition’s National Economic Empowerment Dialogue (NEED) Secretary General, Asuman Odaka called on the government to drop the decentralization system of governance and establish federal governance in the regions that want it to provide good service delivery.

Odaka said that it would only be through a federal government which Buganda Kingdom has been demanding for, from NRM government that Ugandans would live in harmony and equitably benefit from public resources.

“As NEED, we want a federal administration in Uganda where natural resources are equitably beneficial to the citizens, transparently and with full accountability,” he said.

“The Federal governance we are demanding for, helps in fighting corruption, nepotism and sectarianism where no secret deals can be concluded by corrupt administrators,” Odaka added.

Odaka criticized decentralization system of governance which he said breeds corruption in small units of local leadership and gives poor service delivery to citizens.

For so long, the opposition in Uganda has been promising Buganda Kingdom a federal system of governance which the Kingdom has been demanding from President Museveni.
