The Ntoroko County Member of Parliament Gerald Rwemulikya Ibanda has cautioned residents of Ntoroko County to remain vigilant and report any form of suspicious activities to the authorities.
During an interview with Nexus Media reporter on Wednesday morning, June 21, 2023, Rwemulikya emphasized the need for all locals to be alert and watchful.
“I call upon all my people of Ntoroko to be vigilant and identify unusual faces in the community and report immediately,” Rwemulikya said.
“Also important, all residents should report and inform the local authorities about any visitors in the area to avoid suspicions,” Rwemulikya added.
MP Rwemulikya also suggested “Since Ntoroko is a boarder district and has many people crossing in from the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), I request that the movements of people crossing to Uganda should be limited to only day time so that security can easily identify wrong elements if any.”
These warnings come at a time when suspected ADF rebels crossed from DRC on Friday, June 16, 2023 and hacked to death over 37 students of Lhubiriha Secondary School and also killed other five residents of Mpondwe Town Council in Kasese district at the border of Uganda and DRC.
Late last year on December 13th, 51 ADF rebels entered Ntoroko district from DRC and with the help of the Ntoroko residents who were alert and vigilant, they communicated to the security agencies who swung into action, leading to the killing of 26 rebels while 25 were captured by the UPDF and several ammunition recovered from them.
“The ADF continue to pose a security threat in the region and with further reinforcement and more deployment of the UPDF in DRC under Operation Shujaa, many ADF camps have been destroyed leaving a handful of them scattered in the jungles of Congo and it’s a matter of time before we fully eliminate them,” Major Bilal Katamba, the Operation Shujaa Spokesperson said.
