Engineer Patrick Oboi Amuriat, the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party President, has said that he is the rightful voted President for FDC, as per the party constitution, and is ready to challenge the suspension and anyone pertaining the matter.

Amuriat, while responding to his suspension as the party President by the Katonga group on Tuesday night, September 19, 2023, on NBS television from his home in Najeera, rubbished the suspension and referred to it as abuse of power by the team.

“As far as I know, I was voted legally and I am still the rightful elected President of FDC. Whatever transpired at Katonga does not fit into a Delegates Conference, but it departs from the normal, because some were not elected leaders of FDC,” Amuriat said.

He noted that, their issues are before court, but they defied it and acted against people who were voted into offices as per the FDC constitution.

“Anybody who saw what happened at Katonga will know that it is not a good direction for the party and solving anything,” Amuriat noted.

He added that, there is a lot of dishonest with some party members, adding that, Chairman Wasswa Birigwa and Francis Mwijukye have already picked nomination forms for the October 6, 2023 Delegates Conference.

Alice Alaso, a Member of Alliance for National Transformation, and a former member of FDC said that, Besigye pushed Amuriat and Nandala to the helm, whom they now accuse of ‘Big man Syndrome’ but even when it is there, something else has triggered the current situation in FDC.

On Tuesday, September 19, 2023, FDC Katonga faction held a Delegates Conference and suspended Amuriat as the party President, Nathan Nandala Mafabi as the Secretary General and Geoffrey Ekanya as the Treasurer.
