Crackdown on Corruption: SHACU Charges Duo in Multi-Billion Theft Case

The State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU), in conjunction with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP), has arraigned Wycliffe Ntende and Stephen Boogere before the Chief Magistrates Court in Jinja on charges of theft and conspiracy to commit a felony.

According to a statement released by SHACU on September 18, 2024, the duo and others still at large conspired and stole several properties in Jinja City.

“The properties included motor vehicles, household properties, and land, among others, worth over Ugx 2 billion in Uganda, belonging to Eric Krane Scott, an American entrepreneur,” the statement read in part.

According to SHACU, the accused have been remanded to Luzira prison until October 7, 2024.

Similarly, on September 9, 2024, SHACU arraigned before the Chief Magistrate’s Court Bugiri the Assistant Town Clerk, Busowa Town Council, a Parish Chief of Buwanga sub-county, Busowa parish, and 4 PDM SACCO leaders of Busowa Town Council, Bugiri district, on several charges of obtaining money by false pretense and conspiracy to defraud, and they were remanded until September 23, 2024.
