The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) party has called on its members and all eligible Ugandans to actively take part in the ongoing compilation of village voters’ registers for the upcoming LCI, LCII, and Women’s Council elections.
Addressing journalists during a press conference on Wednesday, July 8th, 2026, at Uganda House, the party Spokesperson Sharon Arach Oyat urged citizens to treat the registration exercise with urgency, warning that the quality of leaders elected at the grassroots level will shape service delivery, security, and development in their communities.
“The LCI election remains the basic unit of governance and the foundation of service delivery at the grassroots. It is therefore imperative that all members take this exercise seriously,” Oyat said.
She noted that the Independent Electoral Commission began compiling the village registers on July 6th, 2026, and the exercise will continue until Friday, July 10th, 2026. Oyat reminded members that only those whose names appear on the register will be eligible to vote or contest in the LCI elections.
Oyat criticised the outcomes of the January 2026 general elections and said the upcoming local council elections present another opportunity for citizens to elect leaders who will protect their rights and promote development.
She warned that failing to register properly could result in continued challenges such as land grabbing, joblessness, and poor service delivery.
The party called on all eligible persons to present themselves at designated registration centres in their villages with their national IDs before the deadline to ensure their details are correctly captured.
Oyat urged party members to mobilise others and verify that names are correctly spelled on the register.
