President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has pledged a record-breaking UGX 1.2 billion winning bonus per match to the Uganda Cranes for each victory at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
The announcement was delivered by Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, who revealed that she had been delegated by the President to convey the message directly to the players.
Among, who was addressing journalists in a video circulating on X today August 4, 2025 emphasized the President’s personal commitment to both the players and the development of football in Uganda.
“This morning, I briefed H.E. the President who, because of his passion and love for sports and the boys, delegated me to convey this message. He has committed the sum of 1.2 billion shillings for every win,” Among said.
The financial pledge is seen as a remarkable motivational boost for the national team as it prepares for CHAN 2024; a tournament co-hosted by Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania, and exclusively featuring players competing in their domestic leagues.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) recently announced an increased prize pool of UGX 37.2 billion for the tournament, with the eventual champions set to walk away with UGX 12.9 billion.
Museveni’s direct bonus, separate from the CAF prize money, adds a powerful incentive for the Uganda Cranes to perform at their best.
