Two UPDF Senior Officer Die in Kampala Masaka Highway Fatal Accidents

Two Uganda People’s Defence Forces senior officers have been confirmed dead following two separate fatal accidents along the Kampala Masaka highway.

In the first accident, a Toyota Land Cruiser green in colour rammed into another vehicle, both heading to Kampala, killing all the passengers on the spot. This happened in Kakoni, Rubanda, along the Kampala-Masaka highway at around 11:30 p.m.

The senior officer in question was identified as Brig Gen Fred Kateitwa Twinamatsiko, a Director of Training and Doctrine for the Land Forces.

The incident was confirmed by the Deputy UPDF spokesperson, Col. Deo Akiiki, who said the death of the senior officer was unfortunate given that the Defence Ministry has lost three senior leaders in a space of one month.

“How are we expected to understand this loss in such a short time? A minister of State for (Defence) Hon. Sarah Mateke, Brig Gen. (rtd.) Kyambadde, and our Director Training and Doctrine for Land Forces Brig. Gen. Fred Twinamasiko in an accident!! All gone just like that,” Col. Akiiki said on his official X account.

According to the area local security, both bodies of Gen. Twinamatsiko and that of his driver have been taken to Bombo Military Hospital.

They added that one AK 47 was recovered with 30 rounds, 1 pistol with 7 rounds, and 3 phones.

On the other hand, Brig Gen. Frank Kyambadde was also involved in an accident that claimed his life on the morning of September 13, 2024.

According to a statement by Buwama Traffic Police in Mpigi district, a Prado TX being driven by Brig Gen. Kyembadde was heading to Kampala from Masaka when it collided with a Toyota Hiance and a FUSO.

The victims were rushed to Nkozi hospital and Rubaga hospital by  a police ambulance; however, Brig. Kyambadde died before reaching the hospital.

Recently, a UPDF officer at the rank of Major trying to overtake a line of vehicles in Mabira Forest got into an accident and died on the spot in a head-on collision with a trailer, driving from the opposite direction.
