A major security operation across Kampala Metropolitan has resulted in the arrest and remand of over 75 suspects in a sweeping crackdown targeting urban crime and illegal boda boda activities.
The intelligence-led operation, conducted between March 15th-17th, covered key hotspots including Mutungo, Mbuya, Bweyogerere and parts of Mukono.
According to the Uganda Police Force, the suspects were charged with offences ranging from possession of narcotic substances to public nuisance and other criminal-related charges.

Authorities say the operation focused on dismantling criminal networks, with particular attention on unregulated boda boda riders suspected of facilitating theft and other urban crimes. Several exhibits linked to illegal activities were recovered during the swoop.
In Mbuya I Parish, authorities impounded seven motorcycles from a suspected illegal garage involved in altering bike spare parts and concealing identification details.
Some of the motorcycles reportedly had no number plates, while others bore hidden or suspected fake registrations raising concerns about their possible use in criminal activities.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said the suspects are currently in custody undergoing screening and prosecution processes, with more operations expected to follow.
“These intelligence-led operations are targeting criminal hideouts and illegal activities within the boda boda sector. We are committed to ensuring public safety,” he said.
The crackdown comes amid rising concern over the regulation of boda boda operations in the capital, where the sector remains a key source of employment but is also increasingly under scrutiny for its role in facilitating crime.
Authorities maintain that stricter enforcement and accountability within the industry are necessary to restore order and rebuild public trust in Kampala’s transport system.
