RWIZI REGION: Police Arrests Suspect for Allegedly Killing 52-year-old in Rwampara

The Territorial Police in the Rwizi Region, has arrested Enock Atwebembire in connection with the murder of Ninsiima Medius, a 52-year-old resident of Kyonyo Cell, Bushwere Parish, Mwizi Sub-county in Rwampara District.

Preliminary investigations indicate that on 4th January 2026 at around 6:00 pm, the deceased, Ninsiima Medius, left her home and went to Rwentojoxdg Trading Centre to buy salt.

According to a statement by the police on Tuesday, January 6th, 2026, while there, she attended a campaign rally for a parliamentary candidate, where she spent some time.

“On her way back home, approximately 20 metres from her residence, she was attacked by an assailant armed with a panga. The attacker inflicted four deep cuts on her head and injured the fingers of her right hand,” the Police said on X.

They revealed that Ninsiima raised an alarm, which attracted members of the community, adding that she later succumbed to excessive bleeding.

“The suspect fled the scene immediately after the attack. Police were notified and promptly introduced the canine, Hector, to the scene which tracked a scent trail that led officers to a public gathering, where the suspect Enock Atwebembire was identified and arrested,” the Police added.

Further inquiries established that the suspect had previously been found hiding under the bed of the deceased while armed with a panga.

The locals of Kyonyo cell confirmed that the deceased was the aunt of the suspect.

Authorities have advised residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies to report any suspicious behavior in the community.

Meanwhile, police say that more inquiries into the murder of Ninsiima are being conducted to establish more evidence for the murderer to be apprehended in accordance with the law.
