Police Intensify Fight Against Illegal Drugs and Crime, 41 Arrested in Major KMP Sweep

“The operations were intended to disrupt criminal activities, including opium smoking and street robberies targeting traders and passengers. All suspects are being processed for prosecution,” ASP Owoyesigyire said.

Security operations across the Kampala Metropolitan Area have led to the arrest of 41 suspects in a series of coordinated crackdowns targeting narcotic drug dealers and criminal hideouts in Wakiso, Mukono, and Kampala districts.

In Wakiso District, three men identified as Kafeero James, alias Uncle Manda, Alioni Gasto, and Mwesigwa Isaac were arrested in Kayunga Village, Gombe Parish, Wakiso Town Council, during an intelligence-led operation aimed at dismantling a network that allegedly sold opium under the disguise of a charcoal business at Kayunga Market.

Police recovered exhibits believed to be narcotic drugs and confirmed that the suspects were supplying opium to local thugs operating within the area. The trio remains detained at Wakiso Police Station as investigations continue.

In a related operation, the Kampala Metropolitan Police conducted simultaneous raids in Goma Division, Mukono District, and Kampala Central Division, arresting 38 suspects from identified criminal black spots.

According to ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, 21 suspects were arrested from Bajjo and Seeta in Mukono, while 17 others were apprehended from William Street, Kinamwandu Corridor, Nakasero, and Old Park in Kampala.

“The operations were intended to disrupt criminal activities, including opium smoking and street robberies targeting traders and passengers. All suspects are being processed for prosecution,” ASP Owoyesigyire said.

Police say the ongoing disruptive and intelligence-led operations are part of a broader strategy to restore public order and eliminate criminal dens across the Kampala Metropolitan region.

“Such proactive measures will continue to enhance public safety and maintain security in all divisions,” ASP Owoyesigyire added.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to sustaining similar operations as the festive season approaches, warning that those involved in illegal activities will face the full force of the law.
