A woman has been arrested in connection with the death of Dr John Spire Kiggundu, a prominent Ugandan doctor whose lifeless body was discovered under mysterious circumstances at Dream Guest House in Lubowa, along Entebbe Road.
Eva Mbabazi, a woman believed to be in her early 20s, was detained earlier this week by Kampala Metropolitan Police after authorities suspected her of being the last person seen with Dr Kiggundu before his death.
Earlier reports indicate that CCTV footage from the guest house shows Mbabazi leaving the room booked by the deceased shortly after his arrival on June 21, 2025, around 5:45 PM.
Dr Kiggundu’s body was found in the same room barely an hour later.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SSP Patrick Onyango, Mbabazi has been cooperative and provided a statement to investigators.
Onyango said that her inquiry file has been submitted to the State Attorney for further legal advice.
“We could not rule out her involvement without questioning her, especially since she was the last known person seen with the deceased. We have recorded her statement, and we await guidance from the State Attorney’s office,” SSP Onyango said.
Dr Kiggundu, a well-known figure in Uganda’s medical community and the President of the Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons of Uganda (ALSU), had reportedly accessed the guest house through a back entrance.
Family members had raised concerns after he failed to return home and his phone was unreachable.
After an extensive search, his body was discovered at the guest house, prompting an immediate investigation.
Authorities have urged the public to refrain from speculation, especially after social media users began circulating claims about Mbabazi’s involvement.
Police sources say the inquiry is ongoing, and the next steps will depend on the legal guidance provided by the State Attorney.
