President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has called on residents of Wakiso district and the wider Buganda region to free themselves from the influence of what he termed as “diversionary and disoriented opposition politicians,” blaming them for stagnating development in the area.
While addressing a large public rally at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, at the conclusion of his week-long tour of Wakiso district on Sunday, the President accused opposition leaders of failing to lobby for essential services or monitor the implementation of government programmes.

“These politicians are not focused on development. They waste time misleading our people and fail to bring any tangible results. Wakiso would be far ahead if it had visionary and responsible leaders,” President Museveni said.
The President highlighted numerous wealth creation opportunities in commercial agriculture including piggery, poultry, and dairy as well as sectors such as artisanal work, manufacturing, and ICT-based services.
He emphasized that every household should engage in income-generating activities to uplift their livelihoods.
“Every home should be a center of production, not consumption alone. That is how we build family wealth and national prosperity,” he said.
Museveni also urged residents to take keen interest in the management of the Parish Development Model (PDM) funds and elect responsible leaders who support socioeconomic transformation.
The President directed law enforcement agencies to arrest and prosecute PDM committee leader found extorting money from beneficiaries.
“It is criminal to ask for a bribe from a beneficiary of a government programme. That is corruption and abuse of office. All those involved must refund the money or face arrest,” he warned.
He also instructed security agencies to investigate reports of theft involving PDM investments and ordered that beneficiaries who lost their enterprises through verified cases of theft be pardoned.
The rally at Namboole marked the culmination of the President’s on-ground assessment of wealth creation programmes, including PDM and EMYOOGA, in the Greater Wakiso region.
Throughout the week, President Museveni visited several project sites and interacted with local farmers, artisans, and SACCO members, reaffirming government’s commitment to economic empowerment at the grassroots.
