Museveni Pushes Wealth Creation Agenda in Kampala, Donates Over Shs500 Million to Locals

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has intensified his nationwide wealth creation campaign with a renewed call to urban residents to engage in productive economic activities, as he disbursed over Shs500 million to individuals and groups within Greater Kampala.

On Monday 14th July 2025, while on a field visit to Kibumbiro Zone A, Busega in Rubaga Division, President Museveni emphasized the importance of household-level participation in government programs such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), aimed at transforming livelihoods through sustainable income-generating activities.

The President visited the piggery farm of Nalweyiso Fausita, a PDM beneficiary who used Shs1 million she received in 2023 to purchase two pigs. The pigs have since multiplied, and she now owns ten.

“It is encouraging to see people like Nalweyiso putting our message into action. Wealth creation must start at home, and every family should be involved,” Mr. Museveni said.

Moved by her progress, the President donated Shs10 million to boost her enterprise and pledged to purchase three acres of land in Mubende District to support her farm expansion.

Additionally, President Museveni gave Shs1 million each to ten other PDM beneficiaries present during the visit. The area LC1 Chairman and the village NRM Chairperson received Shs12 million each to acquire tricycles to facilitate community mobilization and oversight of government programs.

He also extended direct support of Shs6 million to the family of a fellow bush war veteran and Shs5 million to another local household.

Later in the day, the President, accompanied by First Lady Janet Museveni, visited Bakitende Expert Garage in Nateete, a local workshop offering vocational training and employment to over 120 youth where he reiterated his message on economic empowerment and pledged further government support.

“Garages like this one play a big role in skilling and employing our youth. We will buy 12 car carriers for the 12 parishes in Rubaga Division, and provide small tools to garages in Kampala and beyond,” he said.

To ease operations at Bakitende Garage, which currently rents its premises, President Museveni promised to purchase land for the facility to help cut operational costs and increase profitability.

He also pledged to buy 12 car carries and breakdown vehicles respectively to support garage operators in Rubaga Division.

Earlier in the day, Museveni officially commissioned the Busega Market, a government-constructed facility now accommodating over 2,800 vendors. He commended the traders for utilizing the market space instead of selling on the roadside.

“This modern market provides safety, cleanliness, and order for our traders. Working from here is better than suffering losses during bad weather or being chased off the streets,” he noted.

The President donated Shs350 million to market vendors SACCOs and approved the construction of a new road linking Busega Roundabout to the market to boost customer traffic and business operations.

President Museveni’s visit is part of his ongoing tour across the country to assess the implementation of wealth creation programs including the Parish Development Model and EMYOOGA, as part of the government’s broader strategy to eradicate household poverty and foster economic transformation.
