The National Resistance Movement party presidential candidate, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Thursday ordered the Ministry of Disaster Preparedness to accelerate compensation processes of all the landslide victims across Elgon sub–region.
While addressing thousands of NRM supporters at Nabongo Grounds in Bulambuli district, Museveni issued bold directives, major funding announcements and a passionate pitch for continued NRM leadership.
Museveni unveiled what he called a final and permanent solution to the recurring landslides that have devastated communities for years.
“People in endangered places should relocate. We now have more money to buy land. Each family will be given 2 acres and Shs10 million, and this time we shall resolve it once and for all,” Museveni said, drawing thunderous applause from the crowd.

Museveni tasked the Minister for Disaster Preparedness, Hillary Onek, to explain the delays and frustrations raised by victims during the rally.
Onek confirmed that government has already secured Shs50 billion to resettle Elgon landslide victims and that families will be settled in Bunambutye and other safer zones.
The President recounted his visit some years ago where a landslide buried an entire village, saying Uganda must never witness such tragedy again.
“I am glad that people now accept the danger. This time, we are going to act before disaster strikes,” Museveni emphasized.
Museveni directed the Ministry of Works to immediately design low–cost tarmac roads suitable for mountainous terrain.
“You cannot build marrum roads here in Sironko and Bulambuli. I even suggested using rocks from Karuma Dam tunnels, but they ignored me,” he said, triggering laughter from the crowd.
Museveni used the rally to present a fact-based report card, highlighting unprecedented government investment in Bulambuli and Manafwa
Under PDM, Bulambuli has received Shs 37.7 billion benefiting 38,846 households — the highest coverage in the sub-region. The area has 86.4% of villages having safe water, with multiple piped water systems already completed.
Undeer EMYOOGA, 54 SACCOs active in Bulambuli; 36 SACCOs in Manafwa, with billions disbursed.
Bulambuli gave Museveni 76.4% in the last election; Manafwa gave him 67.17%. Both districts have gained thousands of new registered voters, and the NRM machinery here is well-oiled.
