Museveni Calls on Moyo Residents to Safeguard Uganda’s Peace and Stability

“When the NRM came to power, many of you here in Moyo were refugees in Congo and South Sudan because of insecurity. You are the best witnesses to the peace and stability we have built. That is why today, people from other countries come to Uganda seeking refuge, while you live peacefully in your homes,” the President said.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has urged the people of Moyo District to safeguard the peace and stability Uganda has achieved under the National Resistance Movement (NRM), describing it as the country’s greatest pillar for progress and transformation.

The President made the call on Friday, 17th October, 2025, while addressing a rally at Celecelea Stadium in Moyo Town, as part of his ongoing tour of the West Nile sub-region.

Museveni reminded residents of the difficult years before the NRM came to power, when many Ugandans fled to neighboring South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo due to insecurity and instability.

“When the NRM came to power, many of you here in Moyo were refugees in Congo and South Sudan because of insecurity,” the President said.

“You are the best witnesses to the peace and stability we have built. That is why today, people from other countries come to Uganda seeking refuge, while you live peacefully in your homes,” he added.

The President emphasized that peace is not merely the absence of war, but a powerful tool for national transformation that must be protected and used to drive development, unity, and wealth creation.

“It is suicidal to promote politics of sectarianism. Those who preach division are enemies of progress,” Museveni warned. “Let us focus on development, wealth creation, and education, the pillars of our nation’s future.”

He called on the people of Moyo to remain vigilant against divisive politics based on tribe or religion, stressing that such tendencies had previously torn the country apart.

Highlighting the government’s achievements and development programs, Museveni urged residents to build on the foundation of peace to improve their livelihoods.

“This peace we enjoy should now translate into prosperity. The government has put in place programs for you to work, earn, and live better. Let us use these opportunities to transform every household,” he stated.

The President reaffirmed his government’s commitment to ensuring that no region is left behind in Uganda’s journey toward socio-economic transformation.

“With unity, hard work, and vigilance against division, Moyo District and Uganda as a whole can achieve lasting peace and prosperity,” he said.

As his tour of the West Nile sub-region continues on Monday 20th October,2025, the President’s emphasis on unity, productivity, and vigilance against division highlights his broader vision of a peaceful and prosperous Uganda where every citizen contributes to building a nation anchored on stability and development.
