The National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu has urged the youth in Kyegegwa and Kyenjojo districts in the Tooro sub region, to take charge of the struggle for political change.
Addressing supporters at Katosa Primary School playgrounds, on 10th December, 2025, Kyagulanyi said Uganda’s youthful population holds the power to shape the nation’s future beginning with active participation in the upcoming 2026 general elections.
“This struggle for change is not mine alone; it belongs to all of us. I urge you, the youth, to take responsibility by turning up in big numbers on 15th January 2026, cast your vote, stay at the polling station to protect it, and ensure no one tampers with your choice,” Kyagulanyi said.
“The only way to defeat Museveni is by overwhelmingly voting him out so that even Byabakama cannot ignore the decision of the majority,” he added.
The NUP party President also criticized Byabakama, the EC Chairperson for remaining silent on the violence inflicted on him by security forces, arguing that such inaction already undermines the fairness and credibility of the election.
He mentioned the incident of Tuesday, December 9, in Fort Portal City, where his convoy was blocked for nearly three hours, preventing him from reaching Kabura Sports Grounds for a scheduled rally.
Then later that evening, as he headed to his booked hotel, police fired tear gas in Fort Portal to disperse crowds that had gathered t
“Byabakama knows I am a presidential candidate, and you all witnessed what happened to me in Fort Portal. The police manhandled me, tore my shirt, beat my supporters, and teargased the crowds. I was also prevented from campaigning in both Kabarole and Fort Portal City,” Kyagulanyi said.
“If Byabakama truly cared, he would have ordered the military out of the election or called off the polls altogether,” he added.
Despite the disruptions, Kyagulanyi vowed to continue his countrywide mobilization.
He is scheduled to campaign in Ntoroko and Bundibugyo today, Thursday, 11th December, before heading to Kasese on Friday, 12th December. He will conclude this week’s tour on Saturday, 13th December, with rallies in Kamwenge and Ibanda, before returning to Kampala.
