Kuteesa Musherure Withdraws from Mawogola North Race 

Musherure outlined several reasons for her withdrawal as respect for Leadership being his first reason and her deep respect for President Museveni, who is also the Chairman of the NRM Party. 

Kuteesa Musherure, the Member of Parliament for Mawogola North, has officially withdrawn her candidature for the NRM flag bearer position in the upcoming party primaries in favor of Godfrey Aine Kaguta also known as Sodo the brother to Museveni president scheduled for July 16, 2025.

This decision comes after consultations with President Yoweri Museveni and his family, reflecting a commitment to party unity and the well-being of constituents.

In a statement released from her office, Musherure expressed her concerns about the political climate in Sembabule, recalling the challenges faced during the 2021 primary elections.

She emphasized the importance of allowing the people of Mawogola North to exercise their constitutional rights freely.

“The essence of elections is to choose our leaders without fear or intimidation,'” Musherure said.

Musherure outlined several reasons for her withdrawal as respect for Leadership being his first reason and her deep respect for President Museveni, who is also the Chairman of the NRM Party.

She noted that Protecting Supporters and her desire and commitment to shield them from the threats and brutality they experienced during previous elections.

Additionally safeguarding and promoting Unit in communities of Mawogola North with a focus on preserving the unity of the NRM party as a whole.

“I take this opportunity to thank the President, the people of Mawogola North, especially my supporters for the opportunity to serve them as their leader, servant, and Member of Parliament from 2021 to date,” Musherure stated.

She acknowledged the progress made in improving local infrastructure, including roads, education, and health services, attributing these achievements to the collective effort of his supporters.

Musherure also expressed gratitude to her Goberera Initiative team for their dedication to government programs, highlighting their role in fostering development in the region.

“Your sterling performance has set an example of how much we can achieve with dedication,” she noted.

While acknowledging the disappointment her decision may cause, Musherure remains optimistic about the future.

“It is in the ashes of such setbacks that the seeds of future success germinate,”

Godfrey Aine Kaguta Sodo in 2021 had contested for the seat but withdrew from the race citing a series of meetings with President Museveni who asked him to step down for his opponent for purposes of building cohesion both within the party and their family.
