Magogo also confirmed that Botes will oversee the youth national teams as well as work with two backroom staff members, a goalkeeper and a sports scientist, and some Ugandan coaches.

Botes said she is ready for the assignment and that she will do all it takes to improve crested cranes.

“I am looking forward to this journey, and I want to make a commitment that there will be an improvement in the way we play football,” Botes said.

“The main objective is to make sure that the Crested Cranes become one of the most competitive teams in Africa. We want to compete in every competition so that we become a winning nation once again,” she added.

The team has been under interim coaches, Ayub Khalifah and Charles Ayeikoh Lukula.

Botes served as the Head Coach of the SAFA Girls Soccer Academy at the High Performance Centre (HPC) in Pretoria, served as the assistant coach of the South Africa Women National Team (Banyana Banyana), and coached the South African U-20 Women’s National Team (Basetsana). She’s also a legend and former player of Banyana Banyana.
