One of the prime suspects in the assassination of Ugandan lawyer and prosecutor, Joan Kagezi has confessed to his crimes and pleaded guilty to all murder charges.
Daniel Kisseka, who was appearing before the International Crimes Division of the High Court on May 19, 2025, gave a detailed account of the events leading up to the evening of the fateful death of the 47-year-old lawyer.
According to Kisekka, the group of three, including Kibuuka John, Nasur Abdallah Mugonole, and Masajjage was paid $20,000 to assassinate Kagezi by an unnamed high-profile.
He added that the high-profile individual was unhappy with her involvement in sensitive Muslim-related cases.
Kisekka who once served as a UPDF soldier based in Gulu District before deserting, on May 19, 2025, pleaded guilty to the 2015 murder.
According to Prosecution, he now faces 35 years in prison or more which comes down to 33 considering the time spent on remand.
Kagezi was shot dead at about 7:15pm on March 30, 2015. The autopsy report indicated that she was shot twice in the neck and shoulder, through the window on the driver’s seat.
Kisekka remains in court and is expected to testify against his three other colleagues today.
