EC starts displaying voter’s registers at 308315 polling stations

“This is going to be the final list for all elections starting with special interest groups, president, members of parliament, and the district local leaders”. Justice Byabakama

Kampala, UGANDA: The Electoral Commission has of Friday 25th April 2025, officially started displaying the final voters register at 308315 polling stations throughout the country.

“I therefore appeal to all Ugandans who have already registered to go to the polling stations to verify whether their names are spelled correctly and to make sure they have the right photos against their names on the register,” said the Commission’s Chairman Justice Simon Byabakama.

He told the media on April 25, 2025 at a press conference held at the commissions headquarters located on Seventh street industrial area that, “This is going to be the final list for all elections starting with special interest groups, president, members of parliament, and the district local leaders”.

He explained that the purpose of this exercise is not to change names or polling stations.

“That exercise ended, if you changed your names, you must write to the commission and the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) must certify that you changed names,”

He said that registers for the special interest groups will be displayed for 8 days from April 25, 2025 to May 8, 2025.

Justice Byabakama said that the registers are being displayed at 308315 polling stations except 620 whose lists did not come of the system due to a technical problem at the commission which is being rectified.

The 620 polling stations include Aura City 2, Buikwe 1, Buvuma 1, Fortportal City 3, Kampala 18, Kassanda 2, Kikuube 15, Kiryandongo 78, Kitagwenda 1,Masaka City 2, Mbarara City 48, Mityana 370, Mpigi 46, Mukono 32, and 13 in Wakiso districts.

“When we start displaying in those areas we shall also give them 21 days as the law states to give voters ample time and for those who would know those who don’t qualify to be on the list should do it using our forms that will be used to identify the bona fide voters to be identified by the parish tribunal” he affirmed.

This tribunal he said is to be comprised of five people of whom two are senior citizens and three others from the political parties whose representatives will be identified by the judge.

The display officers will be at those stations from 8,00am to 6.00pm every day including weekends for the 21 days.
